The journey of Tineke, Wim and an Isuzu Trooper
Fall 2006 Tineke and Wim transported an Isuzu Trooper to Kalwala’s Village.
The car, imported from the Netherlands, was a gift from the Rotterdam police
and got its authentic Joy-of-a-Toy-logo’s already back home.

It is quite clear that it is not that easy to get a car from the Netherlands to Zambia.
First of all the car has to get to Africa by boat. After shipping one still has to drive for quite a distance: Zambia doesn’t have a seaport. On the map you can see the way Wim and Tineke took, more or less. It’s a route of almost 8000 kilometers, of course most of the time by roads not comparable to the Dutch tarmac. Just to be complete: these 8000 kilometers also contained a detour. Understandably Wim and Tineke turned their journey in a holiday as well by taking the ‘scenic’ route.
In November 2006 the car was received in near perfect condition (only the roof rack didn’t survive the trip) by a proud Mr. Chomba, the contractor who is guiding our Zambian project. He accepted the car on behalf of Joy of a Toy. The villagers prepared a hearty welcome for the travelers. A day in advance the car was washed to cleanse it from the dust of the long trip.
The arrangement with the people of Kalwala’s Village is that the car will mainly be used for the Health Post, in case of emergency and for immunization programs.
